Volvo Cars had a solid start to the year, and that shows in its global sales increase of 8.2 percent for the first six months of 2017.

Volvo sold 256,563 cars during the top half of the year last year compared to the 277,641 sold so far in 2017. Global retail sales in June totaled 54,351 cars, a 5.7 percent jump compared to June of last year.

Volvo Cars has a new initiative, and it's slated to light the world on fire when it rolls out in a couple of years. The Swedish car company is planning for every one of the vehicles it launches after 2019 to have an electric motor under its hood. In a press release on the brand's website, Volvo said the move would signify the end of cars with an internal combustion engine for Volvo.
